Data Privacy Statement

Data We Collect about You

Data we collect on this Website

If you visit pages on this website we store a record for each access containing the following data:

  • the IP address from the device from which you access the data
  • the time of the access
  • the resource (page, image, etc.) that you access
  • information about the browser that you use (the "User-Agent" string) (*)
  • the last page that you have accessed before accessing a resource (the "Referrer") (*)

(*) This data is only stored if you submit it to us. You should be able to configure your browser not to do so.

The information is usually stored for about two weeks and then removed.

External data

We have embedded data from the following sites:

They both live in that dangerous, far away country called the Unites States of America and have their own data privacy statement, that you might want to consult if you want to know what they do with your data.

Cookies

We do not use cookies on this website. If you want cookies, make yourself some or visit any of the websites that provide pleny of them.

Data We Collect if You Contact Us via Mail

If you contact us via mail, we store the following information:

  • the IP address of your mail provider (This is not your IP address, unless you run your own mail server)
  • the email address from where you send that mail
  • any content that you submit to us in that mail

The IP address is removed from our server logs after two weeks, but the information contained in your mail is kept in our mailboxes for maybe as much as one year (when we decide to clean up our mailboxes). If you do not want that, please tell us and we will remove your email address and your mails as soon as we have finished handling them.

Your mails will be stored even a bit longer as part of our regular data backup in some backup files. We do not use this data except for recovering from data loss and removing them if we need storage space for newer backups; if the data restored from a backup contains mails that you have asked us to remove, we will remove them again directly after restoring the data backup.

Data We Collect if You use other services

If you persistently poke around our SSH ports, SMTP ports or any non-standard ports that we offer, we might store your IP address and any data that you submit via these channels. Your IP address might be stored for a possibly indeterminate time in our firewall rules to keep you from poking around, because we argue that we have a legitimate interest to keep you from poking around.

(If you do not know what the previous paragraph means, do not worry - you are unlikely to be affected, unless your computer is infected with some malware doing the poking, in case which of course you should worry, but not about us but the malware.)

How We use that Data

We use the data collected on this website to check for any technical problems that might arise. Usually nobody ever looks at it, but if we suspect that there are problems, we will look into them manually.

We use the data you send us via mail to handle any inquiry your mail contains. In case you have a question about our services we might contact you any time later if we have updated your services and think this update might be of interest to you. If you do not want this, please let us know and we will stop doing so.

In case you conclude a contract with us we will keep your data as long as the contract lasts and we need the data to fulfill that contract. Afterwards we will keep the data around for at most a year, in case you have some amendments about the results of the contract.
Also we need to keep the bills and other bookkeeping data for up to ten years due to legal regulations, but we will restrict processing of them to archiving and handling requests from legal authorites.

We use the data you submit to us via poking our servers to improve the security of our servers, about which we claim to have a legitimate interest.

Know Your Rights

all three six of them:

  1. the right of information what data we have stored about you (GDPR Art. 15)
  2. the right of rectification of any incorrect data that we have stored about you (GDPR Art. 16)
  3. the right to erasure any personal data that we have about you (GDPR Art. 17)
  4. the right to restrict the processing of your data (GDPR Art. 18)
  5. the right to recieve a copy of your personal data in a common machine readable format (GDPR Art. 18) - though we cannot say for the heck what this actually means in our case
  6. the right to object to any processing of your data (GDPR Art. 21)

Note that if you send us a request to comply with your right, we will proccess your data in the request, too, because we have to do that to follow your request. Also we are not obliged to erase your data if we have a legal obligation to keep the data (GDPR Art.6 (1) c) - usually bookkeeping for tax reasons - or if we have legitimate grounds in keeping them (GDPR Art.6 (1) f) - which we claim to have if you try to hack our little website or one of the other services we offer on the internet.

External Links

We actuallly do have a few external links of this site. While we do not link randomly at any website we find and we have checked that these website have content we consider usefull when we create the link, we do not control the content of theses websites and neither do we control their data processing policies. Therefore we are legally advised to distance us from any content that you might find there, so we are not responsible for any harm done if case they suddenly transmute into something horribly illegal. (In case they do so, we are happy if you notice us about, of course.)

Updates

From time to time we will update our privacy statement. While it is somewhat unlikely that we suddenly turn into a data hog, strange things happen all the time. Therefore you are advised to review our data privacy statement every time you use our services.
